August Zhang

August is a first-generation Chinese-Canadian illustrator based in Alberta, Canada. After drawing casually for many years, August finally decided to try illustration in publishing. In 2021, they had the opportunity to be mentored through the Queer Kidlit and Scholastic BIPOC mentorship programs, both of which provided invaluable learning experiences and helped them cement their interest in the field. They love illustrating lively characters, diverse family dynamics, and scrappy, furry creatures. Human-animal interactions are a favorite! August's other interests include sleeping, being bad at video games, and taking blurry pictures of local hares.
