Janelle is a paper-cut artist and author who received the 2023 Caldecott Honor and the Coretta Scott King John Steptoe New Talent Illustrator Award for her work in Choosing Brave by Angela Joy. She enjoys exploring themes related to Black culture, history, identity, and family through bold silhouettes and colorful tissue paper. She lives in Virginia with her husband, where she researches ideas for new paper cuts, spends time gardening, and borrows books from the public library.
